India Rebukes Pakistan at United Nations Forum Over Kashmir Remarks, Criticises Misuse of Co-Chair Position
India strongly criticised Pakistan at a United Nations forum for raising the Kashmir issue and accused Islamabad of politicising the platform and misusing its role as co-chair. India's Permanent Representative P Harish reaffirmed that Jammu and Kashmir is an internal matter and highlighted ongoing United Nations reforms under the UN-80 framework.
The remarks were made by India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, P Harish, in response to comments made by Pakistan's Permanent Representative, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad.
Responding to Pakistan's intervention, P Harish criticised the conduct of the co-chair and reiterated India's long-standing position on Jammu and Kashmir. He stated that the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is strictly an internal matter of India and rejected attempts to internationalise the issue through multilateral platforms.
The Indian envoy also addressed the ongoing review of United Nations mandates under the UN-80 framework. He said the initiative is aimed at improving efficiency across the organisation and enhancing the functioning of various United Nations mechanisms.
India's sharp response underscored its continued opposition to Pakistan's attempts to raise the Kashmir issue at international forums while reaffirming its position that matters concerning Jammu and Kashmir fall exclusively within the country's domestic jurisdiction. The exchange also highlighted the broader discussions underway on reforms and efficiency measures within the United Nations system.
